"But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation and always say 'Let God be exalted!' Yet I am poor and needy, come quickly to me O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord do not delay." - Psalm 70:4-5Today is September 1st. All around me I see the changing of the leaves, growing into what will become their vibrant colors. I sit here this morning being thankful for the journey God has brought me through. He has led me down paths that have taught me so much. One path being when he led me to New Hope Christian College for school. As I opened my Bible this morning to read today's devotion, the scripture above was written around from one of my classes.
I took a class called 'Praise and Wisdom Literature.' We went through the books of Psalms, Job, Proverbs. I learned the different parts of the scriptures of Psalms. This specific scripture I pointed out in my Bible the many different emotions of the scripture. David starts of with a plea for those who love the Lord, seek and rejoice in Him. Exalt His name. Next he confesses he is poor and in great need of God to show up, to come to his aid. After that, which I feel is important is he proclaims in great confidence, 'you are my deliverer and my help.'
Going back over my notes was a reminder of my journey that I've walked with God. He is still leading and guiding me. David had confidence in who God was and is, and what He was capable of. Even in the midst of David's battle at that point, in the midst of him feeling scared and lost and uncertain he was confident in who God was. Lately I've been feeling the same thing. Scared, lost, uncertain, confused, feeling like I've been wandering, searching for answers. All the while I had forgotten that God has been there through it all. He was there when my heart was broken, He was there as I've been walking and wandering in confusion, pain and uncertainty. I've been through a lot this year, the year didn't turn out quite like I had hoped in the beginning, but just because I feel lost and confused, doesn't mean God is. God is the omniscient one, He knows all and sees all. He's brought me through my journey this far, why doubt Him now? No.
I need to be confident like David, confident in who God says He is and what I know He is capable of. He will come quickly to me and deliver me from all my emotions and all my confusion. I pray that my hope will start to be restored as I have been given this gift of remembrance of my journey. I have felt defeated and hopeless but now I'm ready to find myself in Him again, remembering His faithfulness, love and grace. My hope is found in Him and Him alone.
I know that only He can restore my hope, heal my brokenness, and start making me into the daughter He has called me to be. In time like these, I think we all need to remember the confidence that David had in Christ. Knowing without any doubt that God would show up and deliver him from his hardship, his pain, his brokenness. He didn't fail David, and I know He will never fail me, or you. I am confident in this, that the goodness of Christ will shine through as I continue to walk along the journey of life with Him by my side. The journey is never easy, and there will be times of doubt, confusion and brokenness. But in those times we need to hit our knees and look to the one who will lead and guide us through it. Christ will lead you through it and you will come out of it stronger and even more confident in who Christ is, in and through you.
